Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain is very common and can be due to many common causes such as osteoarthritis, muscle tears, tendonitis, frozen shoulder and more. The shoulder is the most movable and one of the most complex joint in the body. The rotator cuff which are a group of four tendons in the shoulder, give the shoulder a wide range of motion. This range of motion causes the shoulder to be one of the most unstable joint in the body. This instability increases the likelihood of joint injury, often leading to a degenerative process in which tissues break down and malfunction. When this occur shoulder pain will result.

Since the shoulder is involved in so many of our daily activities, this is the kind of pain that most people will want to quickly treat. Depending on the cause of the pain, in our clinic patients are treated with physical therapy, chiropractic treatment, massage, shoulder brace and warm and cold compresses.

Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain is an extremely common complaint affecting around three in ten adults at some time during their lives. There are many common causes of this problem and it is one of the more common reasons for physician visits for musculoskeletal symptoms. The shoulder is the most movable joint in the body and is also one of the largest and most complex joints in the body. A group of four tendons in the shoulder, called the rotator cuff, give the shoulder a wide range of motion. This range of motion cause the shoulder to be one of the most unstable joint in the body. This instability increases the likelihood of joint injury, often leading to a degenerative process in which tissues break down and no longer function well.

Causes

  • Swelling, damage, or bone changes around the rotator cuff can cause shoulder pain. Pain may be experienced when lifting the arm above the head or moving it forward or behind the back.
  • Bursitis or tendonitis of the rotator cuff, rotator cuff tear which occurs when the tendons of the rotator cuff separate from the bone.
